KCA is a local charity with innovation at its heart

New supported living apartments in Bankview, Mirfield were officially opened in May 2016.

A new Kirklees Community Association development in Mirfield was officially opened on the 25th May 2016. Bankview contains six flats that are designed and purpose-built by local developers to provide an independent base and access to the community for individuals with a support and care needs.

In partnership with the Avalon Group and Care Housing Association, KCA held a special opening event for the flats, attended by Councillor Martyn Bolt. As he cut the ribbon Cllr Bolt commented “It’s a wonderful thing to see a community coming together to make things better for everyone. That’s what makes an area like Mirfield so great. I’d like to wish the best of luck to all those who are making Bankview their home and thank everyone who has had a hand in this project.”

The property itself will be managed by Care Housing Association, with residents supported by The Avalon Group, who have over 20 years’ experience in providing Supported Living services across the community.

Whilst there will be a team on hand 24 hours per day, the goal for the development is one of independence, with those taking up tenancies being encouraged to live independently, with support close by if it should be needed.

Catherine Wielgus, the Locality Manager for The Avalon Group’s Kirklees team, said: “This is a fantastic development and I’m excited to see the flats come to life as the new tenants move in. I know they’ll thrive in this vibrant, close-knit community.”

Peter Rock, Chair of Kirklees Community Association, said: “We are really pleased to be providing high quality accommodation to Care Housing Association and their tenants. This is another great example of  how KCA’s unique status and willingness to work as part of a team can benefit communities in need across Kirklees.”
